The Illustrated Vivian Stanshall

Written by Ki Longfellow ~::~ Illustrated by Ben Wickey

The Illustrated Vivian Stanshall is not a biography. Not of Vivian and not of the Bonzo Dog Band. It's not exactly a memoir... although there are elements of both, but only enough to give a shape to the thing. Between its pages you might not find the Vivian Stanshall you knew or thought you'd want to know, but it's the behind-the-scenes, beneath the sheets, under the bed man I knew for 18 years. I've pulled punches. But not all of them. Some things need saying. Some don't. I haven't recorded every possible voice, only those he himself considered close, had something vital to say or do, and are still breathing. If I'd written this sooner, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, Keith Moon, John Lennon, Dennis Cowan, John Peel, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart, Tony Stratton-Smith, these and many more would have hit notes I didn't hear.

Saying enough about Vivian is never enough.

It was a struggle to keep his book as short as it isn't.

None of this is true. It's all true. But is it art? Ki Longfellow-Stanshall
